A furious Stuart Gray refused to blame goalkeeper Chris Dunn for the Cobblers 4-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.
Dunn was called in after Mark Bunn's transfer deal to Blackburn Rovers was announced on Friday.

"Chris Dunn was not to blame in any way, shape or form - it was the ten players in front of him," he said.

"We got our noses in front but then we had a mad 10 minutes. We thought Chris Doig could continue but then it became clear that it was a concussion injury and we had to leave him in the dressing room in the second half.

"Maybe too many players believed the hype and thought they were better than we are. I cannot make any excuses and I just could not see that sort of performance coming. We gave the ball away far too cheaply and they got a head of steam up. There was an improvement in the second half but it was too little too late."

Gray wished Mark Bunn in his move to Blackburn and praised Chris Dunn as a 'very good young keeper'.

"Chris deserves his opportunity and he has the chance to claim the number one shirt. I will probably look to bring in a loan keeper to cover him but to keep the shirt Chris has to produce performances and I think he will.

"There is a good chance we will be bringing other players in on Monday but we will have to see what happens. After that performance I could replace any outfield player and they could not complain, but a striker is the priority."
