Steve Riches: Cox may rue decision not to join Town
Missing out on ex-Reading striker Simon Cox last season was a major blow.
But his decision to instead join Swindon for more money may not be in his long-term interest.
Our style of play would have given him a better grounding.
Manager Stuart Gray has that rare knack of finding players who really want to prove something by playing for Northampton Town, and Cox took the wrong option, so maybe we're better off without him.
However, strikers with potential are rare, and for the bulk of goals, at the moment the pressure is on that Akinfenwa-Constantine pairing.
I'm sure Gray will continue to search for an up-and-coming younger front player – chairman David Cardoza has already shown that some money can be available for the right player, but we won't be speculating huge sums.
We did well to offload Andy Kirk's wage bill to Yeovil, and they have now made it clear that he wasn't what they hoped for either, as he's now bee n signed by Dunfermline.
