GOLF: Gary Boyd backing for Junior Order of Merit
Boyd, who became the first Cherwell member to win the County Men’s Strokeplay Championship in 2006, has agreed to play 18 holes of golf this summer with three of the day’s winners.
This unique opportunity will go to the boy and girl with the best gross scores, and the Northamptonshire junior who comes in with the best net round over 18 holes.

Hide AdThe 30-year-old, who has played on the European Tour for four years and competed in four major tournaments, is hopeful the round will be at Woburn GC and is already looking forward to the day.

The second NGL Junior Order of Merit event is the County Junior Championships at Kettering GC on Friday, June 1st.

Hide AdPeterborough Milton youngster Jacob Williams made the perfect start to the season by claiming the Challenge Division gross plaudits in the British Junior Golf Tour event at Cambridge Meridian GC on Sunday.
Competing in the Super Six Series for the first time, the 12-year-old fired 10 gross pars, including seven on the inward stretch, during a superb round of 82 to finish four clear of Jake Plumb (Bourn).
Northampton’s Leah Ribano carded a couple of gross birdies on her way to shoot the third best gross score, while Milton’s Harry Smith finished just one shot and one place outside the prizes in the net category.
The third round of British Junior Golf Tour’s Super Six Series takes place at Park Hill GC in Leicestershire on Sunday, March 26.

NGL County Academy Par 3 Championship
A packed field of talented young county golfers will be hoping to hole a few putts on Sunday when they compete in the Junior NGL County Academy Par 3 Championship.
Brampton Heath’s short course is the venue for the competition as players of all ages from across the county get the opportunity to fine their short game ahead of the new season.
Owen Watts (Kingsthorpe) and Ethan La Porta (Brampton Heath) won the gross and net prizes respectively 12 months ago.

Hide AdTwo of the best junior teams in the county from last season will square up in a friendly on April 12 as Northamptonshire Girls face Peterborough Milton on their home course.
The County Girls side will take on Milton, who provided three of the four semi-finalists in last year’s NGL Junior League.

Northampton’s boys squad scraped home by just two points in their challenge match against the club’s girls team on Saturday.
Another junior club competition that is expected to be keenly contested is the Easter Open and Egg Hunt as entries continues to come in for the event onMonday, April 17.
