Joe van Niekerk makes his 50th appearance for South Africa this weekend - less than a year after his switch to Northampton Saints fell through because of concerns over his fitness.
The big back-rower takes on Argentina in the Mandela Tribute match on Saturday.

Van Niekerk was nearly lost to Springbok rugby when he signed a contract with Saints last year, but the Franklin's Gardens club pulled out of the deal citing medical concerns.

The disappointment did not stop the Springbok from signing to play for a French club, Toulon, for a year.

"I'm looking forward to teaming up with (All Black) Jerry Collins. He's a monster."

Van Niekerk will remain available to play for South Africa. "I don't know about the regulations but the way I understand it, players can be called upon for certain matches.

"If the call comes I'll always be ready to play for the Springboks."
