The former Republic of Ireland youth international played more than 100 League games with Cobblers and Cambridge United.
The 26-year-old defender is joined on trial by 23-year-old Latvian midfielder Gints Freimanis
Cork City manager Alan Mathews said: "We have had a few guys come in, and we are looking to strengthen the squad.
"We have both Gints and Fred joining us this week, and we'll see how they get on in training during the week."
