Formula One fans will only be able to attend the first British Grand Prix at Donington Park if they go by public transport.
The track near Derby, which takes over from Silverstone in 2010, has confirmed plans are being made to make the event open only to spectators using public transport.

Speaking at an open day to promote the circuit's corporate activities Donington chief executive Simon Gillett said: "This will be the first public transport Grand Prix.

"We are not bringing cars here.

"We are looking to use public transport from all the major conurbations, the airport and the Parkway station."

Silverstone, which hosts its final Grand Prix next year having lost the contract to Donington, was regularly criticised by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone for its access and parking facilities.

Gosh, Bernie Ecclestone, Simon Gillett, and others will be on the bus instead of in their helicopters, will they? Or could it be that saving the world from global warming is going to be an activity reserved just for poor old Joe Bloggs?

Its not going to be very busy then!

Public transport is a disgrace. Just look at Northampton Train (for train read bus) Station. If you want to go either north or south at weekends you have to hop on a coach as there are no trains and even then they still charge you the same price as the train.

Look on the bright side. There won't be any car traffic jams!!

No, just lots of people at bus stations because they won't put on enough buses!

I hope it fails miserably, I can't think of a nicer thing to happen to such an obnoxious man.

And for once he has been slow to comment?

If they only use public transport they are not expecting the 100,000 plus that comes to Silverstone then. Hope they fail miserably then return the Grand Prix home where it belongs.
