Hayley,40, who has been training hard for the event said: “I have never been a runner, but 18 years ago I dragged myself round the London Marathon, I was supposed to do the Great North Run that year too, but pulled out and didn’t run again until about 18 months ago.
“I started to run around the block for fitness and built it up to park runs.
“When the ballot opened I entered and got a place, then in May this year my beautiful, funny, bright 10-year-old niece was unwell and went to the doctors. “Within an hour she had been sent straight to hospital where she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

“I want to help as it is a life-changing diagnosis and it alters the way you have to think of everything from what you eat to having to plan days out.
“I know it’s early days, but it has taken away the carefree attitude to life my niece had.
“So for me this is hopefully a very small way to help enable more research.”
