A man was taken to hospital after an alleged assault in a street in Northampton town centre.

Police sealed off Sheep Street after they were called out to an incident at 4.40pm on Thursday.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said a man was taken to hospital for treatment for a head injury after a report was received of an alleged assault. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

A number of officers and three police cars were present in Sheep Street for a short time after the incident and the road was taped off from both the Lady’s Lane and Church Lane end.
