Monty Panesar says he never considered going anywhere else before signing his new contract with Northamptonshire.
The England left-arm spinner put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at the County Ground over the weekend.

But, despite being one of the biggest names in world cricket, he says there was only one place he wanted to ply his domestic trade.

"I didn't look elsewhere," Panesar stated. "I am happy here and wanted to stay at Northampton.

"I've been here for a long time and it just made sense to stay.

"You build up relationships with coaches and players and it's a nice family club.

"I'm really happy with the way things are here. I've trained here all my career.

"There is always the feeling of coming home and gives me the chance to go back to doing things the way I have been doing them since I was kid.
"You just slip back in and it's a nice feeling.

"I've got Capes (David Capel) and David Ripley here who have always helped me a lot and still do.

"I can just come back here and continue to work on my game.

"It's also good to come back here and entertain. I know people enjoy that and I suppose that's what we do really."

Northants' NatWest Pro40 clash with Kent Spitfires was called off without a ball being bowled yesterday.

They also narrowly missed out on a much-needed win in the LV County Championship as they just failed to chase down 38 runs to beat Glamorgan on Saturday.
